Good boy!

A Cute Puppy Card With Lots of Texture and Personality
Sometimes it is the cute and playful cards that make me smile the most — and today’s card is definitely one of those projects. I absolutely fell in love with this adorable little puppy image and knew straight away that I wanted to keep the design soft, clean, and textured so the stamped image could really take centre stage.
One of my favourite things about this card is how much texture has been added while still keeping the overall look simple and fresh. The embossed paw print and bone background adds so much interest without overpowering the focal image, and I love how it ties the whole dog theme together beautifully.
For the colouring, I used my Tim Holtz Distress Pencils which are perfect for adding soft shading and subtle detail to stamped images like this. I love how easy they are to blend and layer, especially for creating gentle fur textures and soft backgrounds.
The adorable puppy image was stamped using my trusted Memento Black Ink Pad which gives such a lovely crisp stamped impression — perfect for detailed images and colouring techniques.
The embossed background paper came from a mixed embossed card pack from the range and I thought this particular design worked perfectly with the puppy theme. Sometimes having ready-embossed papers in your crafty stash can make cardmaking so much quicker while still adding lots of depth and interest to your projects.
And of course, the real star of the show is this super cute stamp set. I absolutely love the character and expression on the puppy’s face — it works perfectly with the funny sentiment and gives the whole card such a playful personality.
“Don’t worry, I ate all the candles so nobody will know your age!”
I think this would make such a fun birthday card for dog lovers, friends, family members, or anyone who appreciates a cheeky sense of humour. Sometimes funny cards are the ones people remember the most.
I also love how easy this style of card is to adapt for different occasions and themes too. Simply changing the embossing folder, colours, ribbon, or sentiment could completely transform the look. You could easily recreate this design for:
- Pet birthday cards
- Children’s birthdays
- New puppy cards
- Thinking of you cards
- Get well soon cards
- Dog lover gifts
- Scrapbook pages
- Journal embellishments
Texture is something I always come back to in cardmaking because it adds depth and interest so quickly. Embossing folders are one of the easiest ways to achieve this and they instantly make backgrounds feel more detailed and professional with very little effort.
I also really love combining texture with cute stamped images because it helps create balance in a design. The soft white embossed background keeps everything looking clean while still allowing the focal image and sentiment to stand out beautifully.
I hope you like today’s card and maybe it inspires you to pull out some of your stamps, embossing folders, inks, and colouring mediums and have a little crafty play yourself.
