Fun ideas using things round the home
Up- cycle Delight: Your Next Wreath from Kitchen and Toilet Roll Tubes!
Hello, crafty friends! Have you ever looked at a stack of empty toilet or kitchen roll tubes and wondered, “What on earth can I do with these?” I usually use them for planting seeds in or using to fill the chimney for the BBQ to get it started
Well, I’m here to tell you they’re the perfect starting point for a gorgeous, eco-friendly wreath that you can customise for any season!
How It Works: Gather & Slice
– Collect a handful of clean, dry tubes.
– Slice each tube into rings about 1–2 cm wide.
Shape the Petals
– Pinch or “squish” each ring gently at one end to create a pointed, leaf- or petal-like shape.
Build Your Base
– If you’d like something sturdier to glue onto—cut a thin MDF or Cardboard ring or use a wire wreath ring to build you wreath on.
– Start with a base layer of “leaves,” then add a second layer for full, dimensional coverage.
Embellish!
– Mix in die-cut paper flowers or small artificial blooms for pops of colour and texture or get creative with tissue paper and crepe paper flowers
– Tie on a pretty ribbon or bow at the top to finish your look.
Why We Love It
♻️ Recycling Magic: Turns throw-away materials into beautiful home décor.
💸 Budget-Friendly: No need to buy specialty flowers—just use what you have!
🎨 Colour your tubes: Paint, ink, or even glitter your petals for a unique finish.
I’m so inspired by how this technique can transform everyday scraps into something special. In fact, I’m already planning a Christmas edition: I’ll use a thin MDF ring as a sturdy base, paint it in gold or green using some paint i have in the workshop then layer in festive reds, greens, and metallic accents—maybe even a sprinkle of faux snow! some berries and some flowers i have left over from some projects from last Christmas.... i even have some small baubles that would be ideal🎄
Give it a whirl this weekend and share your up-cycled wreaths in the comments—I can’t wait to see your creations! Happy crafting!
