🌿 Potting with Purpose: Creating a Stunning Focal Planter with Camellia, Ivy & More 🌿
There’s something so satisfying about putting together a planter that not only looks beautiful now but will continue to bring joy as it grows and changes through the seasons. Today, I wanted to share one of my favourite planting moments – creating a lush, layered display in my large white stone pot using a few of my all-time favourite plants.
At the heart of this arrangement is the Camellia – my chosen focal point. I absolutely adore its glossy green leaves and the promise of stunning blooms to come. It adds a touch of elegance and height to the whole design, drawing the eye instantly.
To soften the front and add that beautiful, overflowing look, I planted two ivy plants at the front corners. These act as my spillers – gently trailing over the edges of the pot, bringing movement and contrast with their delicate, trailing leaves. They’ll only get better over time as they cascade further.
Nestled in around the base are my fillers – Calocephalus (also known as Silver Bush) and heathers. These two add the texture and variety I love. The silvery tones of the Calocephalus create a lovely contrast with the deep greens and glossy leaves of the Camellia, while the heathers bring a pop of subtle colour and a touch of wild charm.
I love how the combination of structure, spill, and softness works together in this arrangement. It’s a perfect example of the “thriller, filler, spiller” method of container planting – and it really brings my white stone pot to life.
It’s always such a joy to step back after planting and see how a few thoughtful choices can turn a simple pot into a mini garden moment. I can’t wait to see how this display settles in and flourishes over the coming months.
🌸 Have you planted anything lovely lately? I’d love to hear what’s growing in your garden or on your patio or even you window Sill!

💧 A Gardener’s Best Friend: Water Retaining Crystals 💧
If you’re anything like me and love filling your pots, baskets and containers with blooms and greenery, these clever little water retaining crystals might just become your new favourite garden helper!
They work by absorbing and holding water – up to 400 times their own weight! – then gently releasing it as your plants need it. That means your plants get a steady supply of moisture, helping to prevent both overwatering and underwatering, especially during warmer spells or busy days when watering slips your mind.
Perfect for flowers, fruits, and veggies, these crystals are great for indoor and outdoor plants alike. I find them especially handy for hanging baskets and container displays, where soil can dry out quickly.
A little goes a long way, and they’re a real game-changer if you want to keep your plants happy and hydrated without the daily watering worry!
