Sparkle and Shine: Using Diamond Art in Cardmaking
Lately, I’ve been adding a touch of sparkle to my handmade cards with diamond art, and I’ve had so many of you asking what I’m using! The answer is simple: leftover pieces (or "drills") from past diamond art kits. Instead of letting those gorgeous gems go to waste, I’ve been finding creative ways to repurpose them into my cards, journals and albums.

Diamond Art: A Sparkling Craft Revolution
If you’re a craft enthusiast looking for something new and exciting to try, diamond art might just be the perfect fit! This sparkling craft has taken the world by storm, combining creativity, relaxation, and stunning results that you can turn into all sorts of projects. From handmade cards and tags to framed masterpieces for your walls, diamond art is as versatile as it is enjoyable.
What Is Diamond Art?
Diamond art, also known as diamond painting, is a craft that involves applying tiny, faceted resin "diamonds" to a sticky canvas to create a dazzling mosaic-like image. It’s similar to paint-by-numbers, but instead of paint, you’re working with shimmering gems that catch the light beautifully.
This craft started gaining popularity in 2010, originating in Asia and quickly spreading worldwide. People fell in love with its simplicity and the mesmerising, almost meditative process of placing the diamonds. Over the years, it’s evolved from being a relaxing hobby to an art form that lets you create truly spectacular pieces.
What Can You Make with Diamond Art?
The possibilities with diamond art are endless!
- Framed Art: Create stunning wall art for your home or as a thoughtful gift.
- Handmade Cards: Use small diamond art designs to add a touch of sparkle to your greeting cards.
- Gift Tags: Turn a simple tag into a standout piece with a diamond-encrusted design.
- Mixed Media Crafts: Incorporate diamond art into scrapbooks, journals, or home décor projects like decorated trays or coasters.
What Do You Need to Get Started?
Starting diamond art is simple, and most kits include everything you need. However, here’s a list of the essentials:
- Diamond Art Kit: This usually includes a sticky canvas with your chosen design, a set of resin diamonds, a stylus tool, wax, and trays for sorting the diamonds. I love Craft Buddy Diamond Art kits if you would like to take a look at their products you can find a really good selection on amazon here: https://amzn.to/4ju16kv
- Stylus Tool and Wax: The stylus is used to pick up the diamonds, and the wax helps them stick to the tool.
- Sorting Trays or Organisers: These are for arranging the diamonds by colour, making it easier to work.
- Light Pad (Optional): A light pad placed under your canvas can make it easier to see the symbols, especially for detailed designs.
- Tweezers: Handy for fixing misplaced diamonds or for a more precise touch.
- Sealer (Optional): Once you’ve finished your design, you can seal it to keep the diamonds in place permanently. This is the one i use - https://amzn.to/3POHYAi and i love it!!
Why Is Diamond Art So Much Fun?
Diamond art combines the satisfaction of completing a puzzle with the creativity of crafting. It’s incredibly therapeutic, allowing you to unwind while creating something beautiful. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned crafter, diamond art is easy to learn and endlessly rewarding.
Have you tried diamond art before? If so, what’s your favourite project to make? If not, give it a go and let the sparkle brighten your crafting days! ✨
