I love my orchids...i don't really have many house plants these days but i do love my Orchids. I have my eye on a lovely little Vanda that i saw the other week but didn't want to get it with being away for 2 weeks
Hopefully it is still there when i go back at the weekend - i will let you know if i get it
This little Dendrobium orchid has been amazing, this is the second lot of flowers i have had this year.
It flowered from Jan - March then started again in May.
Last year i re-potted it as it was getting rather root bound - i used the Peat Free Potting compost and feed set i got off amazon if you would like to take a look you can find it here: https://amzn.to/3z0bsGd
I just lifted it carefully the plant out of the clear pot it was in carefully making sure to not damage any of the roots i filled slightly larger plastic pot with some of the potting mix and popped the plant back in adding more of the mix as i went so the pot was full. Unlike most other aerial roots, orchid roots are not looking for a place to burrow down into. They truly live in the air so feel free to leave them shooting for the stars.
If you would like to find the feed on it's own you can find it on amazon here: https://amzn.to/3RpIaqy
It is a great price.. i have only seen it in Garden Centres and it has been quite expensive so i just got it on Amazon it is so convenient as i didn't have to carry the 4.2kg bag of potting mix
I have been giving it a very small amount of food with watering over the growing season and i am so pleased with the results.
I got a lovely in-expensive Orchid bowl (pot) from Ikea and it looks lovely on the window sill
When i start my wreath making projects at the end of the summer i will pinch a little of the moss to pop on the top.. unless i find a small bag somewhere when i am out and about at the Nurseries.
There is 10L of the potting mix so i will look at repotting my Moth orchid next.
Orchid potting mixes often contain ingredients like bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, and charcoal to promote good drainage and aeration for orchid roots. These ingredients can be beneficial for plants that prefer well-draining soil and good airflow around their roots.
Plants that prefer well-draining soil, such as succulents, cacti, some tropical plants, and certain epiphytic plants, may benefit from a mix that includes components like bark, perlite, or charcoal. However, it's important to note that not all plants will thrive in an orchid potting mix, especially those that require more moisture-retentive soil
I hope you like my little Orchid post.. if you would like to see more about my plants and gardening projets please let me know and i will do more
Thanks for reading xo
